KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger)

HOW HAS PRACTICE GONE FOR YOU SO FAR TODAY? “So far, so good at Martinsville. It’s always a tough track to get around. You hope that you find some of the off-season notes and scratch through things to help you get a little better each time you come back. It’s one of the challenging tracks on the circuit for me, trying to get the car to turn and also get that good drive off the corner. With practice, the way it shook out, everything actually felt a little better than normal. We feel like we’ve got the car turning. In qualifying trim, we’ve helped ourselves on the tight side of things, so we’re going to make a few adjustments, look forward to qualifying and see how things shake out. If the rain continues, we’ll take it as well and start sixth. That is probably better than where we’re going to start if we do qualify.”

Busch Brothers A Formidable Bristol Duo

    (NASCAR PR)

Bristol Motor Speedway has spawned much NASCAR lore since its 1961 debut, but here’s a fact perhaps overshadowed by decades of memorable events, personalities and statistics: The high-banked half-mile is responsible for introducing Kurt Busch to the world. NASCAR’s world, that is. The 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion won his first series race there in March 2002, and he arrives this weekend tied with four-time series champion Jeff Gordon (No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet) as the active leader in Bristol wins (five
    each).

Winner’s Transcript: Kurt Busch and Steve Addington

THE MODERATOR: We have the winner, Kurt Busch, of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge, his winning crew chief, Steve Addington.
Kurt, second straight win at this race. It was a hard day. Share your thoughts with us, please.
KURT BUSCH: Yeah, it was a great battle for us. Our Miller Lite Dodge was set up for being a utility-type car. What I mean by that is it was good on long runs, good in the middle runs and good on the short runs. We weren’t excellent in any area, but good overall with the different stints you have to run on tires.
Then sometimes there’s cautions and you stay out on old tires. The car reacted well on those. That’s what it takes, is a well-rounded car. I felt like this year’s battle was much tougher with the competition than last year. But it’s just because the tires change a little bit, aerodynamics change a little bit.
