Busch Brothers A Formidable Bristol Duo

    (NASCAR PR)

Bristol Motor Speedway has spawned much NASCAR lore since its 1961 debut, but here’s a fact perhaps overshadowed by decades of memorable events, personalities and statistics: The high-banked half-mile is responsible for introducing Kurt Busch to the world. NASCAR’s world, that is. The 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion won his first series race there in March 2002, and he arrives this weekend tied with four-time series champion Jeff Gordon (No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet) as the active leader in Bristol wins (five
    each).

Kyle Busch says driving style needs to be adapated for Bristol

“Your driving style has had to change at Bristol a lot,” Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 M&Ms Toyota, said. “Bristol used to be a track where you could charge the corners a little bit and get it right in and down to the bottom of the track. You kind of would go through the middle of the corner and then slingshot out on the exits, and now it’s just so smooth that you’re easy in, you’re kind of easy through the center, and easy off. The track is a little slower than I think it was because they reduced some banking in order to put sort of the progressive banking into it to make the outside groove better for the fans. We’ll have to see how the extension of the SAFER barrier changes the racing, if at all.”

“It was good. We had a good Toyota Tundra today. We had a really good truck. We just kind of went a little too far on that last adjustment and got it a little too tight. We pulled some air out of those front tires and got it down there on the splitter a little bit. After that, the truck started to come back to life. I had my foot off the brake there on the last pit stop. The tires spun and we lost a lot of spots there. All in all, it was a good day. Billy Ballew got third and fourth place finishes in his home town. It’s a cool day.”

Harvick races to keep Kyle Busch from winning to many truck races

No one can deny just how much Kyle Busch dominates in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. However, those that may say he is bad for that series can think again.

Kyle Busch satisfied with second place qualifying effort

Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 M&Ms Toyota, qualified second for the Kobalt Tools 500. After his qualifying lap, he said:

“Yeah, we are. We got a good lap in. I was real happy with the way it turned out when I was done qualifying and then a couple cars later we get beat but that’s just what happens sometimes. I felt really good about our lap. I got the most out of it that I felt I could get. Maybe there was a little more but really nothing that was a whole lot. Overall it was good. Practice went well today. I’m real happy with the way the car acted in race trim. We started there and then we switched over into qualifying trim and the car was pretty decent. I’m looking forward to tomorrow to get some more practice in for the race on Sunday.”
