Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Chevrolet, changed his engine last night after engineers from his team and Hendrick Motorsports, who supplies engines from Stewart Haas Racing, found excessive wear in the engine. Teammate Ryan Newman was told to change his engine this morning to err on the side of caution. Both engines are being taken to Charlotte so they can be examined.
Because of the engine change, both Stewart and Newman will have to start from the rear of the field for today’s Kobalt Tools 500.
Newman was set to start seventh while Stewart qualified 15th for the race.
